Semper Fi surpasses $50 million in donations for injured troops
On March 14, Gunnery Sgt. Brian Meyer was on his third combat deployment when the bomb he was attempting to defuse in the deadly Sangin district of Afghanistan’s Helmand province detonated.
The blast sheared off his right leg, his right hand and three fingers of his left hand.
“Some days you do everything right and something still goes wrong,” the explosives technician said.
Within days, the 29-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine was recovering at Maryland’s National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda when a representative of the Semper Fi fund appeared.
“They approached me within a week and have done so much since, it’s hard to remember it all,” said Meyer, a native of Mesa, Ariz.
Meyer is just one of roughly 6,000 service members the fund has helped since it was started by Camp Pendleton registered nurse Karen Guenther and a group of other Marine spouses shortly after the war in Iraq began in 2003.

Battlefield 3 Minimum Specs
It goes without saying that, if you are planning to give yourself the ultimate Battlefield 3 experience, you’re going to want to pick up the PC version of the game. But, with the game’s release a few months away, there might be some gamers who are wondering if they should give their PC an upgrade in order to even be able to run Battlefield 3.
Thankfully two sets of specs (both minimum and recommended) have been released to give hopeful Battlefield 3 PC players an idea of just how taxing the game might be on their rig.
Settings-wise the minimum and recommended specs are nothing too out of the ordinary, and shouldn’t force too many hardcore PC players to go out for an upgrade. But, of course, these are only the minimum and recommended specs for the game to run smoothly.
There is no mention of what type of PC will be required to run the game at the rate that will deliver the same visuals and fluid movement seen in the game’s amazing trailers. That, one can assume, will be saved for a later date, when all the important experience-related elements of Battlefield 3 will be revealed.
Check out the specs below courtesy of GameStop’s product listing:
Minimum:
Hard Drive Space: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version
Operating System: Windows Vista or Windows 7
Processor: Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz
RAM: 2GB
Video Card: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible Nvidia or AMD ATI card
Recommended:
Hard Drive Space: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
RAM: 4GB
Video Card: DirectX 11 Nvidia or AMD ATI card, GeForce GTX 460, Radeon Radeon HD 6850
We imagine that in order to reap the full benefits of the Frostbite 2 engine, players should be working with some serious computing power – unfortunately we just don’t know how powerful a PC that is.
And let us not forget that the game will also be available on the Xbox 360 and PS3, and while it might not deliver the same experience visually as the PC version, it certainly will, according to DICE, be an amazing game. No matter if it’s at minimum, recommended, or max specs, you’re not going to want to miss playing Battlefield 3.

Battlefield 3 Will Require EA Origin Service
DICE have confirmed that Battlefield 3′s PC version will require gamers to download and use EA’s new digital distribution service Origin to play the game, even if you’ve bought it from a retailer.
In response to questions on the matter from fans on Twitter, DICE community manager Daniel Martos said: “Yes those ‘rumours’ are true .”
Battlefield 3 will be available from a number of digital download platforms other than Origin, but not from Steam.
